Organic Farming Research Foundation (OFRF) has a very clear vision — that organic farming will be the leading form of agriculture in America. OFRF cultivates organic research, education, and federal policy that brings more farmers and acreage into organic production. Founded in 1990, OFRF is a leading champion of American organic family farmers.
Many organic growers are utilizing high tunnels as they provide an organic method for foliar disease control and help cater to local markets. Growing certified organic crops means that only NOP-approved growing practices are used during production and that the production area is certified organic. This means that organic practices have been used for at least 3 years and is certified by a third party agency. In the case of high tunnel production, special considerations should be made during construction to ensure that NOP-approved growing practices are followed. Furthermore, other aspects of production like fertility management, crop rotation, and pest control may be different in an organic high tunnel as compared to the field or a conventional tunnel.
