Construction Considerations for Organic High Tunnels

Overall, the structure of a metal and/or polyethylene (plastic) high tunnel is approved for certified organic practices. Concrete is allowed by most organic certifiers as well as electricity and other major infrastructure components of the tunnel. However, treated lumber is not allowed to come in contact with the soil according to NOP regulations. Many growers have come up with innovative materials to replace treated lumber for baseboards and endwalls.
